Curriculum
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3 your daughter will use investigative skills, work collaboratively using peer, spoof or self-assessments to cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics which give them the opportunity to think scientifically, understand the applications and implications of science and also communicate their findings in relation to their life experiences.
Key Stage 4
In Key Stage 4, we offer three courses in Science:
1. AQA GCSE in Separate Sciences – Biology, Chemistry and Physics
2. AQA GCSE Science A in year 10 and AQA GCSE Additional Science in year 11
AQA provides the external exam (75%) and controlled assessment (25%) on the following academic courses:
3. BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Applied Science. This is externally moderated by Edexcel. Pupils complete vocationally based tasks by matching their evidence to rigorous assessment criteria.

Teaching and learning
Our teaching takes into account all learning styles:
· practical work / field studies / educational visits
· teacher exposition and demonstration
· individual tasks / group-work / problem solving
· homework / past exam questions/ research
· simulations/modelling/role play
Assessment
Diagnostic assessment is carried out during and after each lesson.
Formative assessment takes account of Assessing Pupil Progress tasks and Assessment for Learning tasks at the end of every topic.
Summative assessment at the end of every topic we use Examination Style and Summary style questions.
Homework
For each year group a weekly homework is set.
