Embarking on a Tree-mission!
‘Embarking on a Tree-mission!’
On Tuesday November 29th 2011, 14 year seven students along with Mrs Zambon and Mr Williams embarked (excuse the pun!) on a charity tree-planting expedition in Handsworth Park.
HWGS were approached by Birmingham Trees for Life, a regeneration charity working to secure and replenish our natural environment in our local community to take part in a tree-planting exercise in our local park.
Our girls and staff helped BTFL and the staff at Parks and Gardens in Handsworth Park plan thirteen large trees in total adding to the rich and vibrant atmosphere the park already boasts. Our students, all from Year 7 were delighted to take part in such a different but exciting opportunity and thoroughly enjoyed the whole learning experience that the tree-planting afforded them.
I would like to say a big thank you to Jane Edwards at BTFL, our students and to Mrs Zambon and Mr Williams for accompanying our students and participating in an important part of natural history in our community.

Thanks again and watch this space for more exciting things from our Year Seven, Miss S Beech – Head of Student Progress – Year 7, January 2012.
