OCR Nationals Unit 1 Using ICT-“ The French Trip”

Teaching methods:
All the lessons are taught in one of the computer suites. These are fully equipped with up to date hardware and software. Interactive Whiteboards, scanners and digital cameras are used throughout the programme of study with students being encouraged to make use of all equipment confidently.
Assessment:
Units of work are assessed upon completion and summative tests are carried out on line at the end of each year.
ICT has an end of key stage assessment statement providing a clear indication of what each student has been able to achieve.
Homework
Homework is set regularly, but will be set when appropriate to the topic. The VLE will be used to both set and receive homework tasks.

GCSE Edexcel Applied ICT

In this unit, students explore how digital technology impacts on the lives of individuals, organisations and society. Students learn about current and emerging digital technologies and the issues raised by their use in a range of contexts (learning and earning, leisure, shopping and money management, health and well-being, on the move). They develop awareness of the risks that are inherent in using ICT and the features of safe, secure and responsible practice.

Single Award
This is a practical unit. Students broaden and enhance their ICT skills and capability. They work with a range of digital tools and techniques to produce effective ICT solutions in a range of contexts. Students learn to reflect critically on their own and others’ use of ICT and to adopt safe, secure and responsible practice. They put into practice what they learned about digital technology in Unit 1.

OCR Nationals

The new OCR Level 2 Nationals in ICT are a challenging yet attainable qualifications which give students hands on experience in a wide-range of career linked skills and meet the expectations of employers.
An OCR National (at Level 2) is a nationally recognised qualification worth up to 4 GCSEs grade (A* - C).
The ICT topics are wide-ranging and provide a solid introduction to all basic aspects of ICT and support pathways to many specialised careers such as advertising, product design etc.
For each qualification there is one compulsory unit (ICT skills for business), then the other units will vary according to the qualification being followed.

6th Form
The ICT Department provides two options for students who want to study ICT in the 6th Form. The OCR Applied IC A Level course is studied across years 12 and 13. The Edexcel Applied GCSE described above is available for study across one year.
